Dynamic Earth

Our Dynamic Earth is situated around 1.5km from the Express by Holiday Inn Royal Mile hotel in the heart of Edinburgh, it tells the story of our planet’s past, present and future.

Visitors are taken on a voyage of discovery, beginning in the present day. Climbing aboard the time machine, the journey continues back in time to witness the big bang, the creation of the planets and the structure of planet Earth through the movement of plate tectonics and glaciers. Next on the journey of discovery follow the evolution of the species, including dinosaurs, discovering who were the biggest winners and losers on the fight for survival. Coming back to present day, the voyage of discovery takes visitors across our planet exploring the different extremes, from the oceans, to the polar regions through to the desert and tropical rainforest. Visitors finish their journey in the FutureDome to investigate just what the future of our planet might be, and how we as humans can make a difference in what lies ahead for our dynamic planet.

Much of the learning in Our Dynamic Earth is experiential with the exhibition full of provocative smells, dramatic sound effects and stunning visuals. Interactivity is an important element of the exhibition with a variety of smells, dramatic sounds, stunning visuals and interactive points.
